Cantarriján

Caves and rock formations

Depth: 8-18m | Open Water + | Jan-Dec | Visibility: Up to 30m

Cantarriján is the last beach following the Almuñécar coastline to the west. A rocky profile dive in which we will observe several caves that vary both in their orography and bathymetry, none exceeding 12 meters deep. In the first cave we will observe a large open that is the largest and most beautiful that the area is home to. The second one is located a few meters from the surface, which allows us to take advantage of the sunlight to enjoy all its colors. A few meters from it, the third and deepest, containing a freshwater seepage, which affects the environment and marine life, and sometimes also our visibility.

Huerta

Dive in a nature reserve

Depth: 6-21m | Open Water+ | Jan-Dec | Visibility: Up to 30m

Located within the Natural Reserve between Cerro Gordo and Cantarrijan, west of La Herradura, with a maximum depth of 21 meters. On the sand we will observe large cerianthus and golden anemones, also sand stars and mollusks. On the rocks you can observe great amounts of underwater plant an animal life, species of opisthobranchs, sponges, echinoderms, ascidians and tubeworms, spider crabs, small shrimps and large lobsters. Among the fish fauna we can highlight the species of conger eel, scorpion fish, small groupers, large bream, gilthead bream and dentex.

Large shoals of damselfish, bogas and kinglets, and many wrasse, which in spring are eager to build large nests and seduce the females; Gobies, triglias and blennies complete the list of the common, and among the sporadic: St. Peter's fish, sunfish, flying fish, triggerfish and barracudas.

Dive along the natural reserve

Depth: 10-20m | Open Water + | Jan-Dec | Visibility: Up to 30m

Located on the right side of the beach of La Herradura, right on the edge of the Natural Park of Maro-Cerro Gordo. Once in the water, we will move south to the tip of Cerro Gordo, the depth will be between 10 meters in the shallowest area and 20 meters near the tip. It is an area with great diversity of species, highlighting the large number of nudibranchs such as Chromodoris krohni, Thuridilla hopei, Crimora papillata, Polycera quadrilineata and Fabellina affinis. Other mollusks are also well represented, such as Phalium undulatum or Luria lurida as well as cuttlefish and octopuses.

A rocky adventure in La Herradura

Depth: 10-18m | Open Water + | Jan-Dec | Visibility: Up to 40m

An easy but intense dive, diving in La Herradura with a maximum depth of 18 meters, when returning we will be swimming over the rock formations at a depth of about 10 meters. We will dedicate some extra time to a large rock that breaks the surface where a large amount of fish fauna accumulates. This is an area with high lushness, it is also an excellent area for the observation of nudibranchs, large sponges Gorgonias, yellow anemones tapetum, purple and red stars. Among the fishes we highlight a large number of bream, damselfish, cabrillas, fredis and julias.

Discover marine life by diving next to big colonies

Depth: 10-20m | Open Water + | Jan-Dec | Visibility: Up to 30m

This dive is located to the west of the Punta de la Mona cliff, we will anchor to the right and start our dive at 8 meters. At this point it is not uncommon to find large lobsters, Pollack and Grouper. If we make a stop looking into the blue we will be able to see Lemon fish, Dentex or Sunfish. In the deepest part there are large number of colonies of bryozoans, such as Pentapora foliacea. The star species of the place is undoubtedly the beautiful and large specimens of orange coral.

Cueva del Jarro

Dive through history

Depth: 16-38m | Open Water + | Jan-Dec | Visibility: Up to 20m

Located at Punta de La Mona. We anchor at a depth of about 16 meters, to the left of the cave. The entrance is wide, and narrows as we go deeper. Sometimes we can see large mammals such as dolphins that venture there to rest. It takes its name from some remains of amphorae found in its surroundings.

Our star dive site, located on the beach of Marina del Este, is the most easterly point of this cliff. It is the deepest dive on rocky bottom along the entire coast of Granada.

It is an area where there may be current, but without a doubt, it is an emblematic dive, which stands out for the diversity and richness of its seabed. The yellow coral and large specimens of grouper stand out. In addition to gorgonians, soft corals, large walls covered with orange star coral, lobsters, sea urchins, large conger eels, forkbeards, and if we stop to look in the blue waters, we can see lemon fish, large schools of bogas and bonito Sarda sarda.

Piedra de la Higuera

An amazing environment to study the complexity of the marine ecosystem

In front of the Marina del Este beach in La Herradura we will find this fabulous dive. On the sand we will observe large cerianthus, golden anemones, sand stars and mollusks. On the rocks we enjoy great diversity, but especially brown and red aldas. Among its fauna we highlight the large number of species of opisthobranchs and sponges, echinoderms, ascidians and tubeworms, and countless crustaceans, from small shrimp to large lobsters, or spider crabs. Among the fish, we highlight the numerous conger eels, scorpion fish, small groupers, large bream, gilthead bream and dentex. Large shoals of damselfish, bogas and kinglets, and many wrasse, which in spring are eager to build large nests and seduce the females; Gobies, triglias and blennies complete the list of the usual ones.

Pecio de San Cristobal

Visit a boat, underwater

Depth: 16-24m | Advanced OW + | Jan-Dec | Visibility: Up to 30m

This dive is located southwest of Peñon del Santo, diving in Almuñecar in front of San Cristobal beach. Located on a sandy bottom at a depth of 24 meters, we will visit a wooden boat of about 10 to 12 meters in length.

Along what was the starboard side, a large sinkhole has formed in the sand, interesting for the location of some species such as worms and torpedoes. Among the most notable are conger eels, flatfish, Herreras, pageles, groups of bogas, corvinas and reyezuelos. Among the invertebrate fauna are bryozoans, small spider crabs, spirographs, salmancina, protulas, serpulas and some species of sponges such as Oscarella lobularis.
